Encore!
Watch. Listen. Play it back.
Encore! is a memory game for 1–4 players. The house band plays a tune on four pads, and you play it back in the same order. Every round the same tune comes back one note longer, and a little faster. Play solo to beat your best, or with friends: the last one still playing wins.
No app. No account. Free.
How to play Encore!
Play solo straight away, find a game with people online, or start a private room and share the code. Up to 4 players.
-
Watch and listen
The band plays a tune. Each note lights up a pad, and its band member plays it: drums, keytar, trumpet or bells.
-
Play it back
Tap the pads in the same order. You get 3 seconds for every note in the tune, so there's time to think.
-
One more note
Get it right and the band plays it again with one more note on the end. Miss a note and you're out.
It gets harder
The tune never changes; it just keeps growing. Here's what else changes as you go.
One more note each round. Round 10 is a 10-note tune. Your best is the longest tune you've played back.
The band speeds up. Notes come a little quicker every round, up to about three a second.
From round 9, every fourth round is different. Lights only (no sound), then sound only (the stage goes dark).
Encore! rules
What you need
- A phone, tablet or computer with a web browser. Nothing to download and no accounts. Sound on helps, but every note also lights up.
- On your own: tap Play solo. The game starts right away and keeps going until you miss.
- Online: tap Find a game to play with 1–3 people. If nobody else turns up, you can play against bots instead.
- With friends: start a private room and share the 4-letter code or the QR code. Up to 4 players, each on their own device.
The pads
| Pad | Band member | Sound |
|---|---|---|
| Pink, with a heart | The dino | Drums |
| Blue, with a moon | The cat | Keytar |
| Green, with a lightning bolt | The frog | Trumpet |
| Yellow, with a star | The bunny | Bells |
The four notes make one chord, so every tune sounds like music. Each pad has its own symbol too, so you never have to tell colors apart.
A round, step by step
- The band plays. The pads are dimmed while you watch, so you can't tap too early.
- Your turn. Tap the pads in order (on a keyboard, keys 1 to 4 work too). A bar shows the time left: 3 seconds for every note.
- Encore! Play the whole tune back and the crowd cheers. The next round adds one more note.
- Oops! Tap a wrong pad, or run out of time, and you're out. The right pad pulses so you can see where it went wrong.
Playing with friends
Everyone plays the same tune at the same time, each on their own phone. A strip at the top shows how far into the tune everyone is. Miss a note and you're out, but you can still watch and send emotes. The last one still playing wins. If everyone left misses in the same round, whoever got furthest into the tune wins, and a tie is a shared win.
Tips
- Say the tune in your head as it plays ("drum, bells, bells, trumpet"), or sing it.
- Break long tunes into chunks of three or four notes. The start never changes, so you only need to learn the new note each round.
- Don't rush. You have 3 seconds for every note, which is far more than you need.
Questions
Is Encore! free?
Yes. It's free to play in your browser on any phone, tablet or computer, with no app and no account.
Can I play by myself?
Yes. Tap Play solo and the band starts right away. Your best round is remembered on your device. You can also find a game online, and play bots if nobody else joins.
How many people can play?
1 to 4. Online games need at least 2 (bots can fill in), and a private room can start with just you.
Do I need the sound on?
It helps, but no. Every note lights up its pad and its band member. Only the sound-only rounds (from round 13) need sound.
Do slow connections lose games?
No. Every phone plays the tune at the same moment, and a tap that was on time still counts if it arrives a moment late.
Can I turn off the sound?
Yes. Tap the speaker button at the top of the game screen. Your choice is remembered on that device.
